Job Responsibilities

The payroll accountant will be part of a busy payroll department, providing German payroll services to a diverse range of clients. The payroll accountant will have a solid understanding of German payroll legislation and will be able to process German payrolls from start to finish.


Key Responsibilities:

  • The preparation of monthly payrolls. Ensure accurate and timely processing of the work in accordance with Company Procedures and client requirements
  • Collect payroll input data from clients. Review data and check it is fit for purpose, push back to client if the data is incorrect/incomplete
  • Input client data into payroll software. Run payroll report from software Cross check data from report using manual payroll calculations
  • Pass completed payrolls to Payroll Supervisor for a 4-eye check
  • Develop up-to-date German payroll legislation and product knowledge
  • Including a solid understanding of auto-enrolment legislation and impact in client payrolls
  • Escalation of client/work issues to Head of Service Department Payroll
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients


Key knowledge and experience:

  • Highly numerate
  • Degree Qualification or equivalent is desirable
  • Proven experience in a payroll administrator role within a payroll delivery position. Ideally from a bureau/outsourcing environment. Exposure to expat/international payrolls is desirable
  • Experience of processing payrolls end to end
  • Expertise in all MS Office packages (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Prior exposure to at least one payroll software
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and German
