Job purpose

The Junior Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the Head of Legal, Channel Islands concerning an array of legal matters in the Channel Islands business.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Providing advice, support as well as drafting and negotiating contracts concerning such as service agreements s in line with the uniform templates and TMF Group policies and guidance;
  • Working with local teams including Client Directors, compliance, risk and operational teams to support their services contract negotiations;
  • Provide concise advice, support and as relevant guidance and recommendations in relation to existing contracts on areas such as amendments, complaints and disputes and termination;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of:
    • uniform general contract terms and conditions;
    • contract templates;
    • data and details concerning requests for particulars/information and data privacy matters.
  • Supporting the Head of Legal, Channel Islands in establishing strategic objectives and requirements for the Channel Islands therein, contributing to the goals and projects of the Legal department;
  • Assist in developing training materials and provide training to the business on relevant topics;
  • Understand the business needs and assist in translating this into relevant contract provisions;
  • Exercise independent judgement within generally defined practices and policies to balance commercial and TMF Group’s interests. Offer pragmatic solutions in contract negotiations, which achieve the closure of the deal whilst protecting TMF Group’s legal position;
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Conflict of Interest policy;
  • Assist in the collation of information and drafting of reporting into relevant Boards and Committees;
  • Support and advice on global initiatives and projects and remediation exercises;
  • Assist in the maintenance and update of data protection records and framework.

 

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law;
  • Relevant experience in managing a large scope of legal matters;
  • Excellent knowledge of English language is mandatory;
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating professional services contracts; previous experience working in law firm a plus;
  • Good understanding of data privacy and international data law would be considered as an advantage;
  • Strong inter-personal and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent communication skills.
