TMF Toronto is looking to add a temporary Accounting Supervisor to the team and perform the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision, training and mentoring to Junior Accountants
  • Provide mentorship to Intermediate Accountants
  • Working closely with Accounting & Tax Manager, manage and allocate client account responsibilities to the Accounting & Tax team members
  • Accounts Payable – oversee preparation and review completion of vendor invoices and employee expenses for accuracy, confirming appropriate approvals, and confirming correct coding and entry
  • Review and approve client payments from electronic banking platforms
  • Accounts Receivable – oversee preparation and review completion of client invoices to Canadian or Intercompany customers including verification of tax calculation where applicable
  • Monthly Closing – oversee and review the month end closing entries including full accrual accounting providing general journal entries for Canadian Fixed Asset depreciation (if & when applicable), amortization of prepaid expenses, bank entries and bank reconciliations, payroll and other liability accruals, etc., for Financial Reporting to both Parent & Subsidiary.
  • Year-end Closing – preparing year-end closing entries and updating all related books and records required for annual reporting and Corporate Income Tax returns
  • Government Remittances – calculate and prepare GST/HST, PST, QST & other applicable compliance reporting/filing for all jurisdictions and the reconciliation of the accounts
  • Communicating with Canada Revenue Agency and other provincial government bodies regarding client accounts and troubleshooting any client taxation issues.
  • General Contact for client - responsible for telephone, e-mail, & written communication to client regarding job responsibility issues & communication with employees of the client regarding payroll & expense report issues, other outside communications E.g. Group Benefits, vendors, customers etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting
  • Successful completion of a college diploma or university degree with a focus in accounting
  • CPA designation or enrolment in CPA program preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-client environment is a key asset
  • Minimum of 1 year of direct staff management experience required
  • Advanced Excel knowledge, with experience in spreadsheet development and maintenance
  • Experience with Sales Tax regulations and preparing and filing VAT returns
  • Proficient in accounting software packages (QuickBooks, Netsuite, SAP)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently
