JOB PURPOSE: The Tax Lead Officer assists the Manager, Assistant Manager, and/or Supervisor in daily deliverables to provide excellent service to clients. They represent clients in tax matters, present cases and supporting documents, negotiate with tax authorities, and coach junior staff in the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent clients in tax offices, presenting their cases and supporting documents.
  • Negotiate assessments with tax authorities on behalf of clients.
  • Identify and reconcile discrepancies in letters/assessments from tax authorities.
  • Dispute and clear discrepancies to the maximum extent possible.
  • Advocate for clients in all tax-related matters.
  • Manage high expectations from clients, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Maintain relationships with clients and internal/external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, BIR, and other government departments on client company’s tax affairs.
  • Assist Manager/Supervisor in preparing tax proposals for clients.
  • Supervise Senior Officers, Junior Officers, and Associates, and review draft deliverables.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Tax department and implement internal control procedures.
  • Train and coach junior staff.
  • Prepare and check various tax reports as requested by clients.
  • Perform extreme accounts reconciliation with high attention to detail.
  • Periodically update process documentation.
  • Liaise with external parties such as auditors, tax agents, bankers, and relevant authorities.
  • Handle project management for client engagements, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Work with HR on recruitment activities, performance reviews, and employee relations matters.
  • Act as Treasurer and/or Directors/Officers for the local office and/or clients that may assume certain levels of responsibilities and risks.
  • Update and maintain records/information in ViewPoint.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree holder in Accountancy.
  • Pursuing or qualified in local professional examinations (CPA License) is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory level.
  • Relevant experience in tax functions in professional firms or multinationals.
  • Sound knowledge in local tax (CIT, VAT, EWT, FWT, FBT) and accounting policy (PFRS); knowledge in International Accounting (IFRS) will be an advantage.
  • Experience in preparation of tax statements and supporting schedules.
  • Knowledge in Xero, QuickBooks, or any ERP System is an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of Philippine Taxation.
  • Good knowledge of local systems (e.g., ViewPoint).
  • Advanced Excel skill set and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Filipino.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • Extreme attention to detail and accuracy in accounts reconciliation.
  • Independent and able to work under pressure.
