Job Purpose

The Tax Assistant Manager will support the Manager in delivering exceptional tax services to clients, oversee tax-related engagements, and maintain client relationships. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in Philippine taxation, special tax audits, and strong negotiation skills. The role requires excellent stakeholder management skills, attention to detail, independence, and the ability to work under pressure.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage special tax engagements, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including tax authorities, clients, and their management teams.
  • Negotiate with tax authorities regarding the settlement of tax findings and assessments.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Philippine taxation, providing guidance and insights to the team and clients.
  • Leverage a network of connections inside and outside the Bureau of Internal Revenue to facilitate tax-related processes.
  • Supervise and coach tax supervisors, leads, seniors, and officers.
  • Maintain relationships with daily client contacts and their direct supervisors.
  • Review deliverables to clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local tax regulations.
  • Assist the Manager in business development and prepare proposals for new/existing clients.
  • Monitor and control billing, debt recovery, and credit control actions within the department.
  • Act as an authorized signatory for payment instructions.
  • Attend seminars for networking and professional development.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling services.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients for tax services, focusing on new and complex clients.
  • Conduct and review financial fluctuation analysis for key clients.
  • Liaise with auditors of clients to ensure smooth audit processes.
  • Analyze customer-specific demands and provide value-added solutions.
  • Allocate engagements to team members based on their experience and competence.
  • Monitor team productivity and drive continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and review invoices and manage collections.
  • Collaborate with HR on recruitment activities, performance reviews, and employee relations matters.
  • Act as Treasurer and/or Director/Officer for the local office and/or clients, assuming certain responsibilities and risks.
  • Update and maintain records/information in ViewPoint.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Requirements

  • Degree holder in Accountancy.
  • Pursuing or qualified in local professional examinations (CPA License) is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Relevant experience in tax functions within professional firms or multinationals.
  • Extensive knowledge of Philippine tax regulations (CIT, VAT, EWT, FWT, FBT) and accounting policies (PFRS); knowledge of International Accounting (IFRS) is an advantage.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks, or any ERP system is an advantage.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent command of both spoken and written English and Filipino.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, both internal and external (clients, local authorities, tax agents, auditors).
  • High attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Independent and able to work under pressure.
