Senior Tax Accountant [Australia]

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Review and/or preparation of income tax returns for companies, trusts, individuals and managed funds.
  • Preparation and/or review of Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting files.
  • Preparation and review of FBT returns for entities of varying sizes, including those with complex employee benefits packages.
  • Preparation of tax distribution calculations for managed funds and property trusts, including identifying and appropriately dealing with tax risk areas such as MIT, AMIT, TOFA, WHT etc.
  • Provide support to other teams in resolving tax queries, including conducting research and applying the relevant legislation and tax rulings as required
  • Preparation of written tax guidance memorandums with the support of the Tax Manager
  • Maintaining and managing the tax lodgement list for the firm and ensuring timely and accurate lodgement of all tax returns and FBT returns to the ATO
  • Provide tax support to the Public Officer and conduct sanity checks on tax related documents prepared by external tax agents
  • Assist with the preparation and updating of tax checklists and workpapers, and make suggestion for improvement on current procedures
  • Train and mentor junior staff on preparation of tax and FBT returns as well as resolving tax queries raised by clients.
  • Assist with Business Development (BD) opportunities
  • Maintain relationship with clients and internal/external stakeholders
  • Limited work relating to:
  • Bookkeeping and accounting for various clients
    • BS and P&L accounts reconciliations
    • Cost plus calculations
    • Month end reporting
    • IAS and BAS returns
  • Liaise with clients, auditors, banks, suppliers and The Australian Taxation Office
  • Identify client’s needs and new business opportunities and inform AM / Manager
  • Keep accurate records by coding correctly timesheets in ViewPoint
  • Ad hoc duties as and when require.

Job Requirements: 

  • Degree holder with recognized accounting qualification or business related disciplines
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in CA/CPA firms or multinational companies with significant taxation responsibilities
  • Completed professional qualifications in CA or CPA
  • Advanced Microsoft Office application (advanced Excel a must)
  • Strong knowledge of widely used accounting systems (e.g. MYOB, XERO)
  • Strong command of written and spoken English
